Rob Zurlino

I was a teenager on a family vacation from my small town in Western MA visiting Fort Lauderdale for the first time. Much to my parents dismay, we stumbled upon a Gay Pride Parade where I saw my first Leatherman. That sight stayed with me for years and became the focus of my hottest fantasies.

As soon as I was old enough, I flew like a bat out of hell from that small homophobic town and headed to Florida where men wore much less clothing, skin was king, and people were not afraid of being themselves. I knew I wanted to chart my own destiny and studied Hospitality Management. At the young age of 22, I became Chef-Owner of Antonio's restaurant in Deerfield beach for 13 years, but that town paled in comparison to Fort Lauderdale, so I moved here and opened Herban Kitchen where I was chef-owner for 10 Years.

As a gay business man, I met many people from many interesting GLBT organizations and always did everything I could to support them, but the group that continued to intrigue me the most was the Leather community. My curiosity had become an obsession and since the late seventies I have been to every Levi-Leather Bar in South Florida. I have witnessed many changes and the huge explosion of our lifestyle here in South Florida. I am proud to call Fort Lauderdale my town, which is home of the Ramrod, my favorite place to hang.
